Southbound motorists experienced slow traffic on state Route 8 Monday morning following a three-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer between Tallmadge Avenue and Perkins Street.

According to Akron police, the crash occurred at about 8:50 a.m. A 44-year-old woman was involved in a traffic incident while driving near the bridge between Tallmadge and Perkins and a 39-year-old man stopped behind her off the side of the road. That’s when a tractor-trailer driven by a 68-year-old man crashed into the other man’s vehicle, causing it to slam into the woman’s vehicle, police said.

The 39-year-old man was transported to a local hospital for possible injuries. No one else was hurt.

The truck driver was cited for failing to maintain an assured clear distance.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, traffic an hour after the crash was stopped or severely slowed for 2½ miles, as far back as Broad Boulevard in Cuyahoga Falls. By 11 a.m., it was cleared and traffic was returned to normal.
