A Summit County grand jury indicted a 65-year-old Akron man Tuesday on charges of raping an 85-year-old acquaintance.
William M. Clark has been charged with two counts of rape, a first-degree felony. The first charge is for sexual conduct “compelled by force or threat of force,” while the second is for sexual conduct with someone whose consent was impaired by “a mental or physical condition or advanced age.”
In July, the 85-year-old woman notified the Summit County Sheriff’s Office that she had been sexually assaulted by a male acquaintance. An Adult Protective Services detective began an investigation.
The woman said the acquaintance forcibly penetrated her during an encounter in mid-July. She subsequently sought medical attention and was treated for several injuries, including a broken pelvic floor and torn ligaments in her hip, according to investigators.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Clark on Aug. 30. He is being held at the Summit County Jail on a $500,000, 10 percent bond and will have his first pretrial Tuesday before Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Christine Croce.
John Greven is Clark’s attorney.
