Summit Artspace will offer a new master course as part of the fourth year of its Artist as an Entrepreneur Institute (AEI).
The course, titled “A Closer Look,” is designed for established artist-entrepreneurs and AEI alumni to dig deeper into a range of topics.
Participants can enroll in the entire course or choose individual workshops.
The master course runs from 5 to 9 p.m. June 19-20 and 26-27 at Summit Artspace, 140 E. Market St. in Akron.
“The Full Course,” the institute’s introductory program, will run from 6 to 9 p.m. July 17-20 and 24-27 at Summit Artspace.
Locally and nationally recognized artists, entrepreneurs and business experts instruct participants on strategies for business, finance, marketing and communications.
“AEI offers a valuable mix of practical guidance and inspirational material to help artists of any medium with building their businesses,” said returning instructor Karen Starr, owner of Hazel Tree Interiors and a Knight Arts Challenge winner.
Kelvin Arthur, an illustrator who took the AEI course last year, said the tools he took away from the Institute lit a fire under him to tackle the business end of his art career. He has a studio at Summit Artspace.
“I went from a once-in-a-while commission freelance illustrator to full-time studio artist paying my rent and running a business because of this amazing course,” Arthur said.
Financial support from the Burton D. Morgan helps to offset some of the program’s costs.
“The Full Course” is $100 for those registering before June 16 and $125 after that.
“A Closer Look” is $25 per day, or $100 for the entire program for non-alumni and $50 for alumni.
