A 1-year-old boy who was taken by his non-custodial father during a domestic dispute early Wednesday morning in Akron has been found safe, police said.
Darius Heard Jr. was dropped off by his father at his grandparents’ home in Kenmore.
Authorities had issued a statewide Amber Alert after the boy was taken from his apartment on Callis Oval just before 4:30 a.m. by his 27-year-old father Darius Heard.
He is accused of kicking down the front door, punching the mother in the back of the head and then fleeing in a silver Chevrolet Sonic with Texas license plates.
Heard is still on the loose, police said. He fled the area after leaving his son and police have issued warrants for aggravated burglary, kidnapping and domestic violence.
He is described as a black male, 6-foot-1 and weighing 195 pounds. He was last seen wearing gray shorts and a black Nike coat.
