The National Weather Service says the Akron area should expect only about an inch of snow during the day Tuesday.
But there will be strong winds, with gusts up to 32 mph.
An additional 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible Tuesday night. Snow showers will remain in the area Wednesday but there likely will be less than an inch of accumulation.
The high temperature Tuesday and Wednesday is expected to be near 25 degrees. The temperature is expected to climb into the low 40s Friday, the National Weather Service said.
The National Weather Service has put Medina, Portage, Stark and Summit counties are under a winter weather advisory through Wednesday evening.
The Medina County Sheriff’s Office declared a Level 1 snow emergency Tuesday and reported that roads are snow covered and slippery.
The Medina Highway Patrol reported at noon that it was “extremely” busy responding to weather-related calls including a report of a rollover crash involving a semi on Interstate 71 near state Route 18. This would be the second such call in about 12 hours along the busy interstate.
Montville Police Lt. Matthew Neil said his department has fielded a surprisingly low number of accident calls given the amount of snow that has fallen non-stop in the county.
He said it helps that schools were closed and most folks hunkered down at home for the day.
“Those drivers who shouldn’t be out stayed home,” Neil said.
The snow from overnight Monday forced many school districts throughout the Akron area to close, including Akron City Schools.
The University of Akron also closed its Holmes County site in Millersburg, although all other locations, including the main campus in Akron, are open.
The following communities also issued emergency snow parking bans: Jackson Township, Lake Township, Orrville and Tallmadge.
