The University of Mumbai in India is scouting locations for a U.S. campus and one of the possibilities is at the University of Akron.
The Indian public university has identified potential sites in New York City and Houston, but if neither of those work out, there’s an option to set up a facility at the UA campus, the Times of India newspaper reported.
“We are creating history,” Mumbai Vice Chancellor Sanjay Deshmukh told the newspaper. “A physical campus of Mumbai University in America is not far away.”
UA officials couldn’t immediately be reached for comment, but the Times of India said UA has offered to “turn over one of its structures to Mumbai University” and UA leaders will likely visit Mumbai in May.
The new campus would focus on programs such as international politics, leadership and life coaching, the newspaper said.
The University of Mumbai was founded in 1857 as the University of Bombay. It was one of the first three universities in India.
