ORRVILLE: JLG Industries Inc. is closing its local manufacturing plant and moving production to its Pennsylvania locations.
The Orrville operation, part of the Oshkosh Corp., will close Sept. 30, along with sites in Maasmechelen, Belgium. An engineering center in Bruntingthorpe, England, also will be shuttered. The Orrville closure reportedly will affect 279 workers.
Engineering operations in Orrville will remain unchanged, the company said.
“These actions, although difficult, are the right ones for our business,” Frank Nerenhausen, Oshkosh Executive Vice President and President Access Division, said Thursday in a prepared statement. “Simplifying our product portfolio and operations aligns with our long term vision and strategic direction, positioning JLG to deliver an enhanced customer experience and improved return on investment moving forward.”
JLG builds aerial work platforms and telehandlers. Wayne County estimated in 2015 that the company employed 600 local workers.
