The Akron Area YMCA will offer complimentary memberships to 20 drug addicts who maintain six months of sobriety through drug court programs at the city and county levels.

“Y-STRONG,” as the program is called, is meant to be a reward for recovering addicts making positive lifestyle changes.

“At the Akron Area YMCA, we know how important it is to take time to nurture your mind, body and spirit,” said Jill Kolesar, CEO of the YMCA. “We would like to assist by providing a safe place to do just that.”

The program will provide three months of membership to participants of the drug recovery services in Akron Municipal and Summit County Common Pleas courts.

Drug court programs offer alternative sentencing options for people charged with drug-related crimes. Instead of jail or probation, they are put through a support group treatment program and undergo random drug and alcohol testing.
