StageFest, ‘Fantastic Beasts’ and bikes — Free things to do Week of June 1

Play festival. The Summit StageFest will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday in Akron’s Highland Square. The event, sponsored by Partners for Theater, is a free outdoor play festival featuring productions on five stages. The scenes will range from Hairspray to King Lear to La Boheme to Pinocchio. There will also be art and craft exhibitors, food vendors and street performers. There will be workshops offered where participants can learn about acting, movement and mask-making. Fantastic movie. This week’s Movies@Main at the Akron-Summit County Public Library’s Main Library will feature Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The free showing of the J.K. Rowling-inspired film will be at 6 p.m. Thursday. The library is at 60 S. High St. in Akron.

Safe bikes. There will be a Monster Bikeathon from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday in downtown Akron’s Lock 3 Park at 200 S. Main St. The free event will be sponsored by the Safe Mobility Project. This is the second try for the event that rained out last month. Participants are asked to bring their own bikes. There will be a bike and helmet decoration station, family bike rides on the Towpath, bike check ups and minor repairs, helmet fittings and games. Kids can earn a free ice cream token from Chill and $1 off admission to the Akron Children’s Museum.
