KENT: A standoff lasted nearly two hours on Franklin Avenue on Sunday afternoon after Kent police officers attempted to arrest a woman on outstanding drug charges, police said.

Kent police attempted to serve a felony warrant on India Scott, 28, at 1543 Franklin Ave. She was wanted by the Portage County Sheriff’s Office for failing to appear in court on a felony charge of dangerous drugs.

When officers arrived, Scott ran into the duplex and refused to come outside, police said. Officers evacuated several people from the home who said Scott was upstairs with a gun, and then notified Metro SWAT.

Scott surrendered unarmed around 1 p.m.

Scott is being held without bond on the charge from the Portage County Sheriff’s Office as well as inducing panic.

Police are still investigating whether Scott was armed in the apartment. Other charges may follow after the investigation.
