Former Summit County Councilwoman Tamela Lee’s sentencing in her federal bribery case has again been delayed until early August.

Lee’s sentencing was postponed from May 26 until June 28 to allow time for her new attorney to get up to speed on the case. The U.S. Attorney’s Office had a conflict with the June date and requested another delay.

U.S. District Court Judge Christopher Boyko on Wednesday announced a new date for the sentencing: Aug. 3.

Lee, 58, of Akron, was convicted of six charges by a jury in U.S. District Court in Cleveland in February. She was accused of accepting small gifts of cash and other items in exchange for using her political influence to help the Abdelqader family. She also was charged with getting rid of evidence and lying to FBI agents.

Lee was a Summit County councilwoman from 2011 to 2016 and is the former second-highest-ranking member of the Summit County Democratic Party.

Omar Abdelqader, who pleaded guilty to bribing Lee, recently was sentenced to 2½ years in federal prison. Abdelrahman Abdelqader, Omar’s brother, who also pleaded guilty to several charges, will be sentenced June 8.
