The Ohio Department of Transportation is warning motorists that there will be a new traffic pattern on westbound Interstate 76 through Barberton and Norton starting this week.
Two ramps also are closing along the highway.
The changes are part of an ongoing $80.4 million project to reconstruct the pavement and widen a portion of the highway to three lanes in each direction.
Starting at 6 a.m. Wednesday, motorists traveling west near state Route 619/Wooster Road will encounter a bi-directional traffic pattern with the two lanes splitting. The left lane will cross over onto the eastbound side of the highway.
ODOT advised motorists who want to exit at Barber Road, Cleveland-Massillon Road, state Route 21 and state Route 261 to remain in the right lane.
The traffic pattern, stretching for more than six miles into Medina County, will be in place through late October.
The state agency also will close the ramp from Route 619/Wooster Road to I-76 westbound through mid-October beginning Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the ramp from I-76 westbound to Route 21 northbound will be closed starting June 5 through late July.
The number of vehicles using the highway each day varies through the area, but peaks at more than 70,000 in Barberton, ODOT said.
The construction is scheduled to be completed by late July 2019.
