After applying for bankruptcy and liquidating all of its stores, Gander Mountain announced Canton will be among dozens of locations that will reopen later this year.
The Twinsburg store, however, will not reopen.
Camping World Holdings Inc., an RV supplies retailer, acquired Gander Mountain’s name, existing leases and employees May 1 after Gander Mountain applied for bankruptcy in March.
Marcus Lemonis, the CEO of Camping World, has provided updates on the acquisition through his Twitter account. Among the updates is a list of locations nationwide that will be reopened under the store name Gander Outdoors.
Lemonis said on Twitter that “at least 70 will remain open.”
The Canton location will reopen as Gander Outdoors “thanks to the landlord,” Lemonis said Sunday on Twitter.
He said the employees at Twinsburg will transfer to nearby locations that will remain open.
Part of the decision to keep stores open relies on the ability to sell RVs as part of Gander Outdoors’ inventory, Lemonis said.
Of the eight locations in Ohio, those in Columbus, Huber Heights and Reynoldsburg are joining Twinsburg in closing. The locations in Toledo and Niles are still being determined, while the location in Mentor is set to reopen.
Employees in Mentor said they’re aiming to reopen in the fall.
The stores will remain open until all inventory is gone. Employees in local locations said they anticipate their stores remaining open another month or two.
Everything in the stores is on sale for up to 40 percent off.
Gander Mountain is “the nation’s largest retail network of outdoor specialty stores for hunting, fishing, camping, marine, apparel, footwear, shooting sports, and outdoor lifestyle,” according to its website.
Lemonis is also the star of NBC’s reality series The Profit, on which he offers to invest in and advise struggling small businesses in exchange for an ownership share.
He is calling for people to design a logo for the new Gander Outdoors company on his Twitter account. The winner will receive $75,000, and he’s giving $1,000 gift cards to the top 74 other designs.
To submit, post the logo design on Twitter and use the hashtag #ganderoutdoors .
