Akron Public Schools locked down Ellet High School and the Ritzman elementary school for several minutes Friday morning after hearing reports of shots being fired in the city’s Ellet neighborhood.
The exterior doors were locked for four minutes from 10:08 to 10:12 a.m. It’s standard procedure to lock the doors for such an incident, school spokesman Mark Williamson said in an email.
Police didn’t immediately respond to a call seeking more information.
Earlier this week, the city removed the rims and locked the chain link fence around the basketball courts at Davenport Park in Ellet after several shots were fired.
No one apparently was injured in that incident, which took place Tuesday night while the park was filled with families watching their children play baseball.
Parents have complained about ongoing issues at the city park, including drug dealing and alcohol abuse.
