As a result of Monday’s fatal fire, the city will pass out free smoke detectors to Akron residents at two upcoming events.

Mayor Dan Horrigan will have smoke detectors at a town hall meeting he already had planned for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Innes Community Learning Center, 1999 East Ave.

Also, Councilwoman Tara Mosley-Samples said free smoke detectors will be handed out at East Akron Neighborhood Development Corp., 550 S. Arlington St., at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Mosley-Samples said she donated 25 smoke detectors and so far has received matching pledges from Burning Bush Church, state Sen. Vernon Sykes, state Rep. Emilia Sykes, state Rep. Tavia Galonski and the law firm Kisling, Nestico & Redick.

Akron residents from any ward are eligible to receive them.
