NORTHFIELD

School wins state award

NORTHFIELD: Northfield Elementary School in the Nordonia Hills School District has been selected as a 2017 Hall of Fame School, an award that recognizes schools that engage faculty, students and the community to provide a quality school experience, according to the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators.

Principal Staci Albanese and her staff will be presented the award, including $1,000, during a luncheon in June in Columbus.

Schools were chosen based on their applications and an on-site evaluation.

“Northfield has a strong academic focus that is student centered and focused on growth,” evaluators wrote.

“Classrooms were informally observed during our visit, and each one appeared calm, yet abuzz with student activity. ... Students were seen working together on projects, or working in pairs or small groups in reading or math.

“The visit to Northfield was a real pleasure, and we can readily endorse it for a Hall of Fame award for 2017,” they wrote.

STOW

Nominate ‘unsung’ heroes

STOW: The Stow-Munroe Falls Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations from the two communities for the 2017 “Friend of the Community Award.”

The award will be presented on June 28 at the Pride Breakfast at Acker-Moore Memorial Post, 3733 Fishcreek Road in Stow.

Nominees must work or live in the Stow-Munroe Falls community and show a long-standing commitment to the community.

Chamber membership is not a requirement.

“We want the residents of Stow and Munroe Falls to be more involved in the nominating process,” chamber Director Doris Stewart said. “We know there are ‘unsung’ heroes, those individuals who may not be involved in the chamber, doing good works to better improve the quality of life in Stow or Munroe Falls.”

To submit a nomination, fill out a form at www.smfcc.com, email smfcc@smfcc.com or call 330-688-1579. The deadline is June 5.

The chamber board will select the winner.
