A pedestrian struck by a car early Wednesday on Triplett Boulevard in Ellet died about 3:50 p.m. Saturday with his family at his side, only hours after he was identified.

Akron police said they first tried to identify the man by his fingerprints but found no match. Late Friday, police provided local television with a picture of the injured man’s profile.

Within hours, he was identified as Jason Allison, 37, of Akron, and his family went to Summa Akron City Hospital to be with him, police said.

The crash occurred about 4:45 a.m. Wednesday. Allison was walking south across Triplett when an eastbound car struck him. The driver has been cooperative with authorities, and it remains unclear what Allison was doing in the road or where he was headed. The crash remains under investigation, police said.
