Take in concert at the Flats

It doesn’t feel much like summer weather, but the outdoor concert season is getting started, including a show by The xx at 8 p.m. at Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica, on the west bank of Cleveland’s Flats. The British band, touring behind its latest album I See You, just played at the Coachella festival in the California desert, so this will be a real change of climate for them. See Danny Laine at Kent Stage

Denny Laine, formerly of Wings and the Moody Blues, will perform the entire album of Band on the Run in a show at the Kent Stage at 7 p.m. Expect other Wings and Moodys hits as well. Tickets are $30 at 330-677-5005, www.thekentstage.com.

Become informed about opiates

A Community Awareness Program on opiates will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the HUB Community Center, 3676 Community Lane, Copley. The event will begin with a presentation and panel discussion by local officials, followed by the documentary Chasing the Dragon: The Life of an Opiate Addict. The program is free.

Hear young adult author Green

Popular young adult author John Green (The Fault in Our Stars) speaks at 7:30 p.m. at the Maltz Performing Arts Center of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Tickets are $30; call 216-368-6062.

Attend free poetry program

Kent State’s Wick Poetry Center hosts Giving Voice at 6:30 p.m., featuring local and international students and families from Akron and Kent presenting work from outreach programs and workshops. The reading is free and will be held in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. 330-672-1772.
