Akron and University of Akron police are investigating a shooting that happened about 12:20 p.m. Monday off campus at Power and Kirn streets.
A 22-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman told police they were in a 2006 Mitsubishi Galant and turned onto Power Street from Brown Street, stopping behind another vehicle. They said the passenger of the other vehicle — possibly a silver Pontiac — leaned out of the passenger window and fired shots into the air and shot the Galant, according to the Akron Police Department’s daily log.
The bullet struck the windshield of the Galant.
The Pontiac then fled, going east on Power Street, north on Spicer and east on Gage Street, according to an alert sent out by UA.
No one was injured.
Akron police described the shooter as a light-skinned male, 20 to 22 years old, wearing a back wave cap and a white T-shirt.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Akron Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490. Confidential tips also may be texted to 274637 (CRIMES), with ZIPTIP included in the message.
