A Stark County middle-schooler has been detained on juvenile charges alleging he started a social media post claiming a student was going to bring a gun to school.
The 12-year-old boy, whose identity has not been revealed by the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, was charged with delinquency by inducing panic. The boy was booked into the Multi-County Juvenile Attention Center in Canton.
Sheriff’s deputies reported to Lake Local Schools at 7:40 a.m. to investigate. The middle school and high school were placed into lockdown from then until 7:51 a.m.
No weapons were located and there was no real indication that students or staff were in danger.
The sheriff’s office declined to say which social media site or app was used to spread the rumor.
The schools returned to normal operations and are dismissed students are the normal time.
