An Akron man is in police custody after he allegedly threw his girlfriend through a window screen and poisoned their goldfish early Monday morning.
Dazzmond Pratt, 34, is charged with domestic violence, four counts of animal cruelty — one for each fish that died — and obstructing official business, according to Akron Municipal Court records. The charges are all misdemeanors.
According to reports, Pratt and his 30-year-old girlfriend were arguing at their home in the 500 block of Corice Street at about 2:45 a.m. He allegedly threw his girlfriend through the window and onto the front lawn before pouring bleach into a fish tank.
It’s unclear why Pratt was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty. Ohio law now permits police to charge people with felonies for abusing “companion animals,” which the law defines as any animal kept in a residential home.
