Julia Young’s mother called police shortly after 2 p.m. Monday in hysterics.
“I think my daughter’s been stabbed on her floor,” she told Medina police dispatchers. Authorities would soon arrive on scene and discover Young actually was shot.
Her grandson — one of Young’s sons — could be heard crying throughout the entire five-minute call. He was with his grandmother when she discovered Young, 36, inside the family’s house on Red Oak Circle.
When the dispatcher asked for more details to relay to police, Young’s mother said she thought someone else might be inside. The vehicle in the driveway tipped her off.
“The man who would have done this, his car is in the driveway,” the woman told dispatchers through tears.
Throughout the call, Young’s mother repeatedly told police they were taking too long to arrive on scene. Police sirens are first heard 3½ minutes into the call; officers arrives about a minute later.
Police on Tuesday reported Young, who was six months pregnant, died in a suspected murder-suicide. Her killer is believed to be Cedric Jones, 43, of Ravenna. Jones is thought to have killed himself in the home, police reported. The Medina County Coroner’s Office will confirm the suspicions of police.
Young and Jones appear to have been in a volatile relationship, police said.
“We’re still trying to figure it out,” Lt. Dave Birckbichler said. “They had an on-and-off relationship, but we’re trying to determine where that stood.”
Young had two sons, according to her Facebook profile page. According to the Medina Gazette, she was a 1998 graduate of Medina High School.
A memorial Facebook page has been established. Friends there have expressed their shock and their condolences for the family. The group is planning a vigil in Medina’s Public Square to be held 7-9 p.m. Friday.
