Akron-area residents woke up Wednesday morning to the rare sounds of tornado warning sirens and cell phone alerts for potentially dangerous late-winter storms.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning Wednesday morning for Portage County until 6:30. Shortly before 6 a.m., severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes and straight-line winds were located over Hudson.
Another tornado warning for Summit County expired at 6:15 a.m.
Several area school districts, including Cuyahoga Falls, Hudson, Stow, Tallmadge and Twinsburg, delayed the start of classes Wednesday morning.
Bath Township police reported several roads closed because of trees being toppled. The affected roads are the 2600 block of Yellow Creek, 2800 block of Ira, and 2400 block of West Bath.
