A Medina teen was killed Friday night in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 80 in Pottawattamie County, Iowa.
Angel Martinez, 17, was a passenger in the back seat of a 2005 Honda Civic that had pulled off the side of the highway.
An eastbound 2016 Kia Sportage driven by a 52-year-old woman from Wilmington, N.C., ran into the back of the vehicle at 6:25 p.m., the Iowa State Patrol said.
Martinez was not wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the Civic, Fabian Prado, 36, of Brunswick, was injured and taken to Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs.
Further details about the accident were not immediately available.
Medina City Schools says Martinez had previously withdrawn from the district.
A GoFundMe page established to assist the family (https://www.gofundme.com/support-beautiful-smile-angels-fam) notes that Angel had worked at Tres Potrillos Mexican Restaurant in Medina Township for a number of year.
The fund had raised nearly $5,000 of a $7,000 goal by Monday afternoon.
The website said the teen and his family were returning to Ohio from a trip to Nevada.
