Ohio Gov. John R. Kasich Friday announced the appointment of two judges to Akron’s Municipal Court.
Ann Marie O’Brien and Jason T. Adams will fill court vacancies beginning March 1. Each must run for election in November if they want to retain the seats.
O’Brien will replace Judge Joy Malek Oldfield, who was elected to the Summit County Court of Common Pleas in November. O’Brien must run in November to retain the seat for the full term beginning Jan. 3, 2018.
O’Brien received her bachelor’s degree from Hiram College and her juris doctorate from the University of Akron. She currently is a judicial attorney for common pleas court.
Adams will replace Judge Katarina Cook, who was elected to common pleas court, Domestic Relations Division. He must run in November to retain the seat for the remainder of the unexpired term, which ends Dec. 31, 2019.
Adams, who received both his bachelor’s degree and juris doctorate from UA, has served as the magistrate for Summit County Common Pleas Court since 2009.
