Firestone High School students were greeted Wednesday morning with metal detectors and extra police security after an email threatening harm to students was sent to a teacher Tuesday night.
“We got a very non-credible, vague threat that an individual wanted to hurt people at Firestone,” said Dan Rambler, Akron schools director of student support services and security.
Despite school and police officials not believing the threat was credible, Firestone notified parents late Tuesday night and beefed up security.
“Our thought is to be honest with people and let people know what we know,” Rambler said.
Students can expect extra security the rest of the week and random metal detectors, he added.
School officials and police are now investigating who made the threat. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Firestone administration at 330-761-3270.
