A $2 million bond was set Friday for an Akron man indicted on two counts of murder in connection with a double-homicide case in Ravenna.
Javon Thomas, 26, who is accused of shooting and killing Brian Brack, 24, of Canton on Jan. 7, pleaded not guilty in Portage County Common Pleas Court.
Brack and Austin J. Tiller, 20, of Stow, were shot to death following an argument around 4:35 a.m. at an apartment building at 731 Woodgate Blvd.
Destany Dixon, 21, of Ravenna, suffered injuries that weren’t life-threatening.
Ravenna police Capt. David Rarrick said the investigation is ongoing in the killing of Tiller. The police sent evidence to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and are waiting for results.
Thomas is being held in the Portage County Jail.
His indictments were handed down Thursday, court records show.
Thomas’ pretrial hearing is set for 1 p.m. May 12 in Judge Laurie Pittman’s courtroom, and his jury trial is set for 9 a.m. May 23.
Pittman raised Thomas’ bond from $1 million to $2 million according to Cleveland.com.
The shooting is the second in the past few months in Ravenna after David Calhoun, 25, of Akron, was charged in the shooting and killing of a pregnant woman and her former boyfriend on Nov. 30.
