An Akron woman’s pit bull is in stable condition after a man reportedly opened fire at the dog during a home invasion on Thursday afternoon.

The 31-year-old woman told police that two men armed with handguns entered her unlocked side door shortly before noon in the 800 block of Davis Street. She said the men threatened to kill her and then shot the dog before taking $300 from a kitchen table and fleeing. They were last seen entering a light-colored minivan in the 700 block of Clyde Street.

The woman and her newborn child, who was home, were not injured. The dog was transported to Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Copley Township, where it’s listed in stable condition.

Police say the suspects are two black men in their 20s.

The first man is said to be 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11 and weighing between 180 and 190 pounds, with short black hair and a deep voice. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a red or purple vest and matching sweatpants.

The other man is described as light-complexioned with a mustache, about 5-foot-9 and 145 pounds. He wore a gray hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants.

The vehicle they entered was silver or lime green with no front license plate. It had rust around the right rear tire and a luggage rack. It could be a Dodge Caravan or a Chrysler Town & Country minivan.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 330-375-2490.
