What went right: Quarterback Robert Griffin III finally threw his first touchdown pass of the season in his fifth start with the Browns. Actually, he threw his first and second, connecting with tight end Seth DeValve for 12 yards with 7:48 left in the first quarter and tight end Gary Barnidge for 4 yards with 9:21 left in the second quarter to give the Browns a 14-0 lead.
What went wrong: Turnovers ultimately led the Browns to lose despite the Steelers resting their offense’s top players — quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, wide receiver Antonio Brown, running back Le’Veon Bell and center Maurkice Pouncey. Griffin threw an interception near the goal line, and the Browns lost three fumbles. One fumble came when undrafted rookie cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun was stripped of the ball at the Steelers’ 1-yard line as he attempted to return an interception for a touchdown with 3:22 left in the third quarter. Another came when running back Isaiah Crowell rushed 2 yards to the Steelers’ 3 but lost the ball with 56 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
The bottom line: 1-15 says it all.
