LAKE TWP.: A Stark County sheriff’s deputy was killed in an accidental shooting Sunday night at a residence on Vixen Street Northwest, authorities said.
Chief Deputy John Campbell, who has been with the sheriff’s office since February 2015, died.
Deputies and the Greentown Fire Department responded at 9:47 p.m. to the shooting. A news release from the sheriff’s office said “there was an accidental discharge of a firearm that traveled through a wall striking the victim.”
The release doesn’t state who fired the weapon and further details were not immediately available.
Campbell, who is survived by his wife Tammy and two sons John and Joshua, previously worked as an agent in charge of the Canton, Toledo and Cleveland districts for the Ohio Investigative Unit.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office was requested to do the investigation.
