PENINSULA: Tens of thousands of people find their way to Peninsula in the heart of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park when the weather is fair.

But the tiny and quaint village has several reasons to bring folks back in December. Here’s why:

• Peninsula’s Candlelight Walk will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday.

The event includes a tree-lighting ceremony at 6 p.m., a Classic Movie Night at the Peninsula Library (6105 Riverview Road) at 6:30 p.m., and a “60s Television Christmas” presentation at the Boston Township Hall (1775 Main St.) at 7 p.m.

There also will be carolers throughout the village, and a free concert by Woodridge High School and Kent Roosevelt High School students at G.A.R. Hall (1785 Main St.) at 6 p.m.

• Saturday is “Reindeer Day” with live reindeer from Spring Mist Farm from 1 to 4 p.m. on the Bronson Church Green Space across from Yellow Creek Trading Co. (1685 Main St.).

The Community Christmas Bazaar sponsored by the Boston Township Trustees will be held at the township hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sing-along Christmas Carol Concerts will be held at the G.A.R. Hall at 1, 2 and 3 p.m.

• Dec. 10 is “Elves Day” with the opportunity to win prizes in the Vintage Elf Scavenger Hunt beginning at Yellow Creek Trading Co.. The event runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Visitors also can visit with Mrs. Claus at the G.A.R. Hall from 1 to 3 p.m. to make a craft, and there will be adult Christmas coloring at the library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Dec. 17 is “Grinch Day,” with the Grinch traveling about the village for visits and photo opps.

A Grinch basket will be raffled off, and visitors will be invited to contribute warm socks for a collection to go to Akron Snow Angels.

Meanwhile at the library, a group of harp players and other musicians from throughout northeast Ohio will present a selection of international holiday music at 2 p.m.

Other activities throughout the month include visits from Santa at Trail Mix Peninsula every Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.; Santa’s Mailbox will be in front of The Brown Rabbit (1685 Main St.) and Trail Mix-Peninsula (1565 W. Boston Mills Road) to drop a letter and wait for a reply; Peninsula Library will have a mini-tree display from Nov. 26 to Dec. 17; and the Spicy Lamb Farm’s Christmas Sheep will visit Yellow Creek Trading Co. every Saturday.
