A man who a witness said had a gun while attempting to enter the Oliver Ocasek Building on South High Street in downtown Akron was taken into custody, but no gun was located.

Akron police report that the man was not charged. The man was white, about 5-foot-8 wearing a red shirt, blue jeans, black coat and a baseball cap.

A caller to police reported that the man had a gun. The caller saw him running from his car, parked at the corner of East Bowery and South Broadway. Police apprehended him in the vicinity.

“We did not find a gun,” police spokesman Lt. Rick Edwards said. “We’re going to review security footage to see if he ever had one, but right now, we have not found a gun.”

The Ocasek Building, which is home to state offices, was put into lockdown about 4 p.m. for safety reasons. The man did not enter the building. No shots were fired in the incident.

Several roads in the area were temporarily closed pending the investigation.
