STOW: When you’re used to winning, a loss is a little more hard to swallow.

That was the case for two area volleyball teams Wednesday, when Revere and Northwest each lost a Division II regional semifinal match at Stow.

The Minutemen were close in every set but fell in straight sets to Beaumont 25-20, 25-21 and 25-22. Northwest, meanwhile, lost to Lake Catholic, the state’s top-ranked team, 25-6, 25-9 and 25-20.

Lake Catholic will take on Beaumont in a regional final at Stow at 2 p.m. Saturday.

“It’s always hard after a loss, but I told the girls after the game that we had one heck of season,” Revere coach Jenna Repp said.

Revere (20-6) won a district title for the first time in school history after going undefeated in the Suburban League American Division and winning a league title.

Beaumont (16-10) played consistently all night. As close as each set was, the Blue Streaks were never down by more than four points, which included holding a lead in the entire first and second sets.

Only in the third set did they find themselves down by four.

Callia Hutchison led Beaumont in digs with 16, while Kimberly Sweeney led in assists with 37.

The Minutemen were led by senior Viktoria Farian, who finished with 18 kills and 20 digs. Senior Erinn Kahoe added 12 kills and seven service points.

“I’m so proud of them for everything they accomplished,” Repp said of her seniors. “Especially Viktoria [Farian] and Erinn [Kahoe] and all the seniors for their leadership and for everything they did to keep this team together. Even with this loss, I told them to keep their heads high.”

As for the Indians, they had just one loss all the season and never lost a set by more then 10 points. But the Cougars — who feature five Division I recruits — showed why they’re undefeated.

Lake Catholic (26-0) was led by senior middle hitter Lauren Witte, who will be attending Ohio State next year, and Maya Eller, who will attend the University of Cincinnati.

Witte, at 6-foot-3, was too much in the middle for Northwest, finishing with five blocks and 10 kills. Eller also had 10 kills.

The Indians were led by Maria Kolinoff with 13 digs and five service points.

“Blocking wide, [the Indians] were just frustrated, and they couldn’t get the ball past the block and that’s just Witte,” Lake Catholic coach Rich Severino said about his star player. “She is just amazing. Absolutely amazing. You can’t replace a kid like that.”
